Pre-Prep Update #2 :: 06/19/17

Hello again, families!

 

Preparations are ramping up here at Prep@Collegiate, and we wanted to share a little more information with you. First off: allow me to introduce our all-star team...

 

Faculty:

- Charmaine Turner, ELA: Ms. Turner is a veteran educator with deep and broad experience in Baltimore City Public Schools (both in the classroom, and in administrative roles). She holds a Master's in Education, and has spent the past two years as Lead Teacher for 7th- & 8th-Grade English at Baltimore IT Academy.

- Tim Carter, Math: Mr. Carter is a third year math teacher in West Baltimore at Green Street Academy. He has taught seventh and eighth grade Common Core Math and will be teaching Algebra 1 during SY 2017-2018. Prior to teaching he was a private tutor in mathematics and an instructor on the MdBioLab, a STEM laboratory for Maryland's high schools.

 

Fellows:

- Jeff Robinson: Jeff is a current BCSB family member finishing up his year of service with Americorps. He plans on continuing his strong relationship with the BCSB students this summer at Prep@Collegiate; afterwards, he plans on pursuing his Master's degree in Nonprofit Management and Public Policy at NYU this fall. 

- Jahvonta' Mason: Jahvonta' is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and a recent graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in Public Policy & Leadership. After Prep@Collegiate, Jahvonta' will be moving to Casablanca, Morocco in August to teach middle school English at the Casablanca American School. 

- Nere Eyeguokan: Nere Eyeguokan is currently a resident of Baltimore County, Maryland and is an upcoming senior at Frostburg State University studying sociology and leadership studies. After college he aspires to be a school counselor. Some hobbies include running, watching sports, and reading.

Co-Curricular Activities

Each day after lunch, the boys will have the opportunity to participate in a number of fun & exciting activities (every week, we'll give them them the list for the week ahead, and they'll sign up for the ones they want). Afternoons will include activities like: speech & debate, swimming, chess, flag football, hands-on science experiments, and workshops on topics like test-prep strategy (for exams like the Secondary School Admissions Test). 

 

Field Trips 

We'll take one big field trip each week. Tonight, I'll tell you a little about the first two:

Week One: Outdoor Adventure with Outward Bound! We'll spend a full day in the field, learning new skills and testing our limits with the world's premier experiential education program in the .

- Week Two: Camp Hippodrome A day of fun & imagination at Baltimore's historic Hippodrome!
